It was a great finish at SAFECO Field as the South Range Mariners pulled off a
dramatic comeback beating the Greenville Black Sox by the count of 3 to
2.
South Range had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring
3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two outs Carlos Pena began the rally
when he drew a walk. John Buck was next and he doubled. Eduardo Nunez then
doubled. Alcides Escobar followed and he lashed a single. Escobar took
second on the throw. Despite losing, Greenville out-hit South Range 8 to 5.
Henry Rodriguez(1-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Antonio Bastardo(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. 'Now there is a
lesson in perseverance for you,' Buck noted. 'It was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in
spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
